A Riverfront Escape, Just 2 Hours from Atlanta

You can leave Atlanta after lunch and have your feet in the Ocoee River by dinner. Ocoee River Retreat is a 4-bedroom riverfront cabin in Copperhill, Tennessee, and at roughly two hours from the city it's one of the closest real river escapes Atlanta has — close enough for a spontaneous weekend, far enough that the only traffic is the current going by.

The Short Drive North

The route is half the charm: north out of the metro, up toward Blue Ridge, Georgia, then into the twin downtowns of McCaysville, GA and Copperhill, TN where a painted line marks the state border down the middle of Main Street. The last few miles wind along the Ocoee River valley, the cell signal fades, and your shoulders drop a little lower with every bend. Two hours door to deck.

A Full Mountain Weekend Without the Long Haul

Because it's so close, you don't have to choose between relaxing and exploring — you've got time for both. Launch a kayak from the property, watch Olympic-grade whitewater fifteen minutes up the road, fish your own private frontage, walk to a riverfront brewery, then settle onto the deck as the Copper Basin goes quiet. It's a real getaway that doesn't cost you a whole travel day on each end.

Easy to Reach, Hard to Leave

That's the catch with a place this close: you'll keep coming back. Spring rafting, summer floats, autumn color in the Cherokee National Forest, a fire on the deck in winter — every season is a two-hour drive away. Atlanta has plenty of weekend options. Very few of them put you to sleep to the sound of whitewater.
